Keeping it Green: Our Commitment to the Planet
At London Chilli Co we believe that heat shouldn't come at the cost of the Earth. From the soil our peppers grow in to the box that lands on your doorstep, we are constantly working to reduce our footprint.
📦 Conscious Packaging
We’ve ditched the "plastic for the sake of plastic" mindset. Your chillies deserve better, and so does the ocean.
Biodegradable Fill: We use starch-based "packing peanuts" that dissolve in water or can be composted.
Recyclable Glass & Cardboard: Our bottles are 100% glass, and our shipping boxes are made from 100% recycled cardboard & are biodegradable, strong enough to repurpose & fully recyclable.
Minimalist Labels: We use eco-friendly inks and labels designed to be easily removed so you can reuse our bottles at home.
🚜 Shortening the Journey (Food Miles)
We believe the best ingredients are the ones grown closest to home. By reducing food miles, we ensure peak freshness and lower carbon emissions.
Local First: We partner with regional farmers for our seasonal harvests, ensuring that our core ingredients travel miles, not continents.
Seasonal Sourcing: Our production schedule follows the natural growing seasons to avoid the energy-intensive costs of out-of-season greenhouse farming.
In-House Growing: We grow a selection of our specialty "super-hots" right here in community gardens, cutting transport emissions to zero.
♻️ Don’t Throw the Silica!
Very occasionally you may find a small silica gel sachet in our dried chilli flakes or powder packs where we haven’t been able to find a more sustainable alternative (a rare occurence!). We’re not currently using these, however we’ve chosen to keep this info on our page as there are lots of these about and there’s some great uses listed here. Please don't throw them away! Here are three ways to repurpose them:
Protect Your Tech: Drop them in your camera bag or a drawer with old electronics to prevent internal corrosion from humidity.
Save Your Seeds: If you’re a gardener, keep your harvested seeds in a jar with a silica packet to ensure they stay bone-dry until next spring.
Dry Out Wet Shoes: Toss a couple into your gym bag or damp boots to help them dry faster and stay fresh.
Note: If your silica packets feels "heavy" or aren't working, you can reactivate them by spreading them out on a baking tray & placing them in an oven at roughly 100°C for an hour to bake out the moisture. Alternatively you can return them to us on your next visit.
